Mit Unterstützung wachsen nun auch in Dubai im übertragenen Sinn die Bäume in den Himmel. Stefano Boeri, Architekt und Entwickler des Vertical Forest Konzeptes, stellte das Vorhaben in Dubai anlässlich der COP27 im Sharm El Sheikh vor. Die Fassaden von zwei Wolkenkratzer, einer mit einer Höhe von 190 Metern, der andere 150 Meter hoch, werden mit rund zweitausendsechshundert Bäumen und über 27.000 Sträuchern begrünt werden, ergänzt von Gewächshäusern und hydroponischen Gärten. Letztere sind vertikal angelegt, die Pflanzen werden mit einer Nährlösung versorgt, auf Pflanzenerde wird verzichtet. Eine Premiere in der Region. Stefano Boeri: „The project, commissioned by Impact One, represents the first Vertical Forest prototype for the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) area with the aim of integrating the benefits of urban forestry such as the absorption of fine dust particles, microclimate regulation and reduction of the greenhouse effect together with innovations as part of the management of the water system in arid climates and the optimization of energy production from renewable sources.“
