Ein Kunstwerk der 99 BMW 8 X JEFF KOONS hat der Künstler signiert. Es war für eine Wohltätigkeits-Auktion bei Christies in New York reserviert. So war es bei der Weltpremiere im Februar angekündigt. Am 4.April 2022 nun wurde dieses Exemplar, das letzte der auf 99 Fahrzeuge limitierten Serie, bei Christies versteigert. Das Interesse war groß. Das Höchstgebot beeindruckend. Respekt einflößend das Ziel der Auktion: Der Erlös geht als Spende an das International Centre for Missing&Exploited Children (ICMEC).
Zwei Statements. Jeff Koons: „From the choice of colors to its overall look and use of material my car has asuperhero feel to it. Giving to ICMEC and literally saving the lives of children is a superhero endeavor, now more than ever. 1 am thrilled that the auction of the car was such a great success! lt should encourage anyone to get involved and appreciate the great work foundations are doing globally to make the world a better place.“
Und Bob Cunningham, CEO ICMEC: „We at ICMEC are so grateful for the generosity of the winning bidder, BMW,and especially Jeff Koons, whose partnership and support is instrumental in our efforts to help make the worldsafer for children. The Funds raised from this collaboration will help ICMEC respond to the critical challenges children face from the pandemic and forced migration. This generous contribution will help us to develop better technologies to locate and identify missing kids, including children who are lost, abducted, or trafficked in conflict areas, and to advocate for policies, laws, and interventions that better address issues like the proliferation of child sexual abuse material, online grooming, and live streaming that have emerged as even greater threats to children during the pandemic.“
Der Höchstbietende hat nun nicht nur ein besonderes Kunstwerk ersteigert. Jeff Koons wird ihn auch in sein Studio in Manhattan einladen. Das wird die Zeit etwas abkürzen, denn der THE 8 X JEFF KOONS wird noch auf Kunstmessen und Events in Europa, Asien und im Middle East gezeigt werden. Dazu gehören die 16th Istanbul Contemporary, Paris Photo, the Goodwood Festival of Speed und West Bund Art & Design Fair Shanghai.
